Nick Kitchen: FILEX

Nick joined the firm in January 2010 and specialises in civil costs, particularly in relation to personal injury claims, but also has experience of both family and criminal publicly funded costs.

Nick is a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives and has been employed in solicitor’s offices since 1986, dealing with most aspects of legal work including conveyancing and civil and criminal litigation. In 1998, Nick trained as a Costs Draftsman and began working in-house for a firm of Exeter solicitors before moving to the Midlands in 2003 to take up a full time costs position with a large firm of Birmingham solicitors.

As part of a dedicated costs negotiating team, Nick acted for several major insurance companies dealing with defendant’s liabilities arising from personal injury actions, including large and catastrophic loss claims. In addition, Nick acted as one of the team’s two advocates, attending Detailed Assessment hearings at various Courts including Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham and the SCCO in London.

At the beginning of 2008, Nick was appointed to the role of Technical Head of Costs, a position he remained in until he decided to return to his home town of Exeter in 2010.
